OLPC XO Laptops
One Laptop per Child (OLPC) is the non-profit organization behind the XO laptops, more widely known as the “$100 laptops”. The XO laptops are specifically designed as educational tools for children, particularly in so-called developing nations. They are relatively inexpensive, feature a sunlight-readable display, and have been designed to be very robust. XO laptops are therefore a solid hardware basis for projects in the area of educational technologies.
So far OLPC has delivered between 1.5 and 2 million XO laptops to approximately 40 countries. More than half of these laptops can be found in Latin America with a number of countries and regions such as Argentina’s La Rioja province, Colombia, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay having seen projects launched in the past few years.
